INTERNATIONAL PROJECTS Extending a hand to the nations
This project was started at our base in 1998. It aims to give logistic and spiritual support to the short and long term teams that have the vision to go to other nations.
The first team was sent in 1999 to Africa to serve the countries of Senegal and Guinea Bissau. This team trained some of the nationals by running a ‘Children at Risk’ school. In 2000, we embraced another cross-cultural challenge, this time in Asia. The focus was children and women involved in prostitution in the city of Bombay, India, where we implanted an orphanage between 2003 and 2004.
This project has already sent seven teams (29 missionaries) to six different nations. Some of them are still there and they are doing a variety of diverse works in these nations.
Since 2005, we have been investing in other nations such as Afghanistan and China.
Guinea Bissau
Guinea Bissau, like many countries in Africa that have been affected by war, and is in a process of rebuilding. YWAM has participated in this restructuring through social programs.
In January of 2006 a team of medical professionals went to serve in the area of health, educational visits, and teaching on recycling. We presented the ‘Jesus’ film and invested into the local church. We also helped to develop training, discipleship and counseling programs. This partnership brought growth and enrichment for the volunteers as well as opportunities for the nationals.
Senegal
Senegal is a country that is 98% Islamic, with great potential and many needs. In 2004 we sent an outreach team that worked with children at risk together with the ‘Sidewalk Project’. They worked at night with the street children and their families.
They also helped with the building of the new base in the capital city, Dakar.
India
In 2003, a small team started a work on the streets in an area of prostitution in India with a goal to rescue young girls at risk. They were able to provide some of them with educational and social support.
Then in 2004 we ran the ‘Children at Risk’ school with 19 students; 18 being Indians.
In the first semester of 2007 we sent a small DTS outreach team that had great experiences and brought back an assurance of the continual needs of this nation.
Samoa
Samoa is an island in the South Pacific. The people are very friendly and hospitable and the majority of them are Christians. We have sent various outreach teams to Samoa and in November 2011 will host a pastor seminar.
China
China today is a country with a growing economy and relationships with the outside world. It has one of the fastest growing populations in the world, with a potential to be a super power in the world’s economical market. You are invited to be a part of team that will be impacting this nation. Come with us!
Afghanistan
After the fall of the Taliban in 2001, different organizations have gone in to participate in the reconstruction process of this nation. We have been a part of these moments with long and short term social projects through house keeping schools, weaving and sewing courses, teaching and education for widows from the war, computer courses and teaching English.
